Procedure

We are not salespersons; we are problem solvers.

  1. Confirm the street address to make sure you are at the correct building(s).
  2. Time into this account via mobile or on the paperwork. Review the Order Instructions and Location Instructions. Review your route log for hand-written notes.
  3. Grab your flashlight, clipboard, and blank field sheet and head to the front door.
  4. Ring the doorbell or knock; step back to give personal space. Greet the client, introduce yourself, and identify that you are with Good Earth Pest Company.
  5. Ask about their problem. Be an active listener and hear their concerns. Pay attention to where the problem is observed and collect as much information as you can. If they want to show you something, then go look at it whether it helps or not it will validate their concern.
  6. Inspect the exterior of the home, paying special attention to the eaves, vents, and roof junctions.
  7. Identify the species of bird. Migratory birds are protected and cannot be disturbed when nesting. The three bird species NOT protected by the Migratory Bird Treaty Act are:

    House Sparrows

    • House Sparrows
    • Pigeons
    • European Starlings
  8. The Norther Flicker is a protected bird we commonly deal with and they breed during March - June with the young leaving the nest as late as mid-July. We cannot perform any exclusion, repairs, or deterrence in the months of March - August unless we can guarantee that there is no active flicker nests on the structure.
  9. Make a map of the building marking all areas of bird activity and repairs needed.
  10. Using the Exclusion Pricing Worksheet, figure out the cost of all necessary repairs, removal of the nest(s), and any applicable bird deterrents that will help keep the birds from re-infesting.

For some bird infestations, special material is necessary (netting, spikes, lift, etc.) and a bid may not be possible to supply onsite. Get all needed measurements and pictures while onsite and call your manager to schedule a time to meet and develop a bid together. This may require contacting vendors to get specific pricing information.

  1. If you can supply a bid onsite, then copy the map to the exclusion report page and fill out a service agreement accordingly that outlines the needed repair costs and any time frame constraints.
  2. Reconvene with the client, explain what you found. Review the map and service agreement, making sure they understand the costs, Good Earth’s control strategies, and potential time limitations.
  3. If they decide to move forward, have them sign the agreement. Leave the pink copy with the client.
  4. Return to your vehicle and clip all paperwork together with the Service Slip on top. Secure all equipment and make sure your vehicle is safe to travel.
  5. You are the first tech to be servicing this account, be sure that you update the location instructions with any pertinent information that other techs should know. Remember: Clients have access to your notes so they should always be professional and appropriate.
  6. If it was a particularly pleasant interaction be sure to send a review invite via the Podium app (see PS.150 Sending a review invite using Podium Mobile).
  7. Check off the account on your service route log.
