Preparing for your workday – Pest Technicians

Purpose

To provide guidance and to establish procedures for Pest Technicians as they prepare for their workday.

Safety and Health

Chemical resistant gloves should always be worn when handling pesticides or any rodent related materials. Always wear eye protection when handling opened chemical containers.

Materials and Equipment

  • Your service vehicle and
  • All items/materials needed for the day.

Procedure

Proper preparation is the key to a successful workday. Failure to do so can cause unneeded service visits, trips to the office, or even unsafe decision making. Some technicians will perform their workday preparation the morning of while others will decide to do it the evening before.

  1. First, review your Route Log and look for the following details:
    1. Type of services that you will be providing today.
    2. Services that are timed and notification notes such as COW or Call On Way.
    3. Types of special equipment needed (hand drill, ladder, KEY needed, extra rodent monitors, etc.)
    4. Any other handwritten or highlighted notes.
  2. Review the “Order Instructions” of each service in your day. These instructions are both in PestPac Mobile (most up to date) and printed on your Route Log.
  3. If you have any questions regarding your Route Log, make a note to discuss it with the CSR who put your day together later, their name will be printed at the top right corner of the page.
  4. Make sure that you have the proper uniform and waterproof footwear for the day.
  5. Perform a safety check of your vehicle before driving:
    1. Check your brake lights, head lights, and turn signals for proper operation.
    2. Check your tires for proper inflation and acceptable wear.
    3. Check your fuel level and make sure to leave time for refueling if needed.
    4. Check that your windshield, side windows, and doors are all in good functioning order.
    5. Check that your seatbelt is functioning properly.
    6. Adjust your mirrors accordingly if needed.
  6. Your vehicle should also be clean both inside and outside. Wash your vehicle and remove any garbage or clutter if needed. There is a vehicle wash station located at the back of the pumphouse of the office.
  7. Fill the bulk water tank in your vehicle.

  1. Wearing gloves, restock your service vehicle with the standard pesticides needed:

Keep in mind that you will use some materials much more during different seasons. For instance, you need to keep larger amounts of Wasp Freeze stocked during the Summer than you will during the Winter.

  1. Stock your vehicle with the standard materials needed:

⬜ Rat traps
⬜ Mouse traps
⬜ Peanut butter
⬜ Rodent body bags
⬜ Rodent monitor labels
⬜ Extra web mop head
⬜ Wire to secure traps

  1. Stock your vehicle with any other special materials or tools needed to complete your day (review your Route Log for this information).
  2. All the items needed to outfit your vehicle should be on the shelves in the warehouse or in the chemical storage room. If you cannot find what you need, consult with your Service Manager or with the Shop Manager.
  3. If you are meeting up with another Technician during your day, make sure to have a discussion to establish a time and gameplan.
  4. Depart with enough time to be at your first client’s location at 8:00am (unless you have early calls).
