Purpose
To provide guidance and to establish procedures for Pest Technicians as they perform follow-up services for commercial structures or restaurants on regular services.
Safety and Health
Read and understand the current label of each pesticide or material being applied, paying special attention to label restrictions, and required personal protective equipment (PPE).
Materials and Equipment
Backpack sprayer, web mop pole, rodent toolbox, and any other equipment needed to make material application.
Procedure
Review paperwork, both in your phone and on your service route log at the beginning of your day
and before you travel to the service location. Confirm the service to be performed and pay attention to COW notifications, client’s concerns, or any other special remarks.
- Try to find parking near the office (if there is one). Refrain from parking in spots reserved for employees.
- Review the Order Instructions and Location Instructions. Review your route log for hand-written notes.
- Confirm the street address to make sure you are serving the correct complex.
- Time into this account via mobile or on the paperwork.
- Check in at the office if there is one onsite. If not, then notify the onsite contact that you have arrived.
- When speaking to our contact person:
a. Greet them, introduce yourself, and identify that you are with Good Earth Pest Company.
b. Ask if they have any pest problems or concerns and listen to how they answer.
c. Address their concerns and explain what you are doing. Remember, we are a service company. Always make sure that the client’s needs and expectations are being met.
If our contact is unavailable: leave a door tag with your name, date, time, and service provided. - Use your web mop to remove spider webs on all buildings we service, unless otherwise noted in account. This should be done at least 2x annually. Pay special to entryways, under eaves, and around windows.
- While removing webs, inspect for signs of pest infestations or any conducive conditions that need to be addressed (i.e. overgrown vegetation).
- Some accounts will have interior and exterior rodent and insect monitors. Interior rodent traps and stickies should be checked every service. For accounts serviced monthly, rodent bait boxes may be checked every-other-service unless otherwise noted or a baiting only account. If there are no monitors present, then skip to step 11. Make sure to reference the monitor map if there is one.
- Utilizing your rodent toolbox, service all exterior rodent monitors. You may need a notepad to record the activity level and bait applied to each monitor.
a. Open the station using the corresponding key.
b. Check the rodenticide contained within.
c. Replace the rodenticide if it is old, moldy, partially consumed, or compromised. For guidance in selecting the proper bait, see PS.105 Exterior rodent baiting.
d. If the bait has been consumed entirely, showing a high amount of rodent activity, then you should apply a higher quantity to that station as per the label of the rodenticide being used.
e. Make sure that the station is properly numbered, labeled, secured, and in good working order. If it is compromised in any way, then it should be replaced immediately. If you do not have a station to replace it with, then remove the compromise station and make notes to have it replaced during the next visit.
f. Before you leave the area of that station, stand up and perform a quick visual scan to make sure that no tools, rodenticide, or other items are left.
g. Make sure to note the amount of bait used per station and the level of rodent activity observed.
Remember: Rodenticides are some of the most dangerous materials that we handle, and they need to be applied with extreme diligence and care.
- For insect and spider control, service all areas of the foundation/exterior perimeters of all buildings on service with the appropriate insecticide see PS.104 Choosing pesticides for application during a regular service. If the material label allows, perform a liquid spot service around windows, eaves, exterior crack and crevices, foundation vents, and any other possible entry points of concern. Always be aware of the wind conditions and your surrounds to avoid over spray or material drift. Pay special attention to people outside, patrons and employees entering and exiting, ashtrays, pet dishes, open doors/windows, bodies of water, or any other sensitive conditions that should not be exposed to pesticides.
- Commercial structures on occasion will experience high pest pressure (mostly overwintering pests and wasps) coming from the roof. If there is safe access, treatment can be done around the parapet, crack and crevice under flashing, and around units installed on the roof. Always avoid air intakes on HVAC and always follow product labels.
- Return to your vehicle and secure all equipment, making sure everything is ready for safe travel.
- Enter all required information on material applied into PestPac Mobile. Also enter notes on the service provided today as well as any client concerns, observations you made, or necessary environmental changes (see PS.102 Entering material information and notes into PestPac Mobile). Your service record should tell a complete story of what you observed and accomplished while onsite. Remember: Clients have access to your notes so they should always be professional and appropriate.
- If the service takes longer than the time slot allocated in your day, then make a note to have the scheduled time for follow ups changed by the office.
- You should check in with our contact person once you have completed the service.
- If the account has an onsite log book make sure it is updated.
- If you had a positive interaction with the client, send them a review invite using Podium (see GE.150 Sending review invitation using Podium mobile).
- Time out using PestPac Mobile.
- Check off the account on your service route log.
- Review any notes pertaining to your next service (i.e. COW)
