Purpose
To provide guidance and to establish procedures for Pest Technicians as they perform small ant interior services for clients of Good Earth Pest Company. This procedural is for interior liquid and dust treatments only! You may want to incorporate a baiting service into this as well (see PS.224 priority service - small ants).
Safety and Health
Read and understand the current label of each pesticide or material being applied, paying special attention to label restrictions, and required personal protective equipment (PPE).
Materials and Equipment
Respirator, Flashlight, Gloves, screwdriver, inspection mirror, Hand sprayer, and any other equipment needed to apply materials or help inspect.
Procedure
Review paperwork, both on your phone and on your service route log at the beginning of your day
and before you travel to the bid location. Pay attention to COW notifications, client concerns, or any other special remarks.
- Park with the flow of traffic on the street. Do not block driveways when possible.
- Review the Order Instructions and Location Instructions. Review your route log for hand-written notes.
- Check the history of the account to see when the last time it was treated, and what it was treated with.
- Confirm the street address to make sure you are at the correct building(s).
- Time into this account via mobile or on the paperwork.
- Bring your inspection gear to the door. Do not cross over grass or landscape on your way if avoidable.
- Ring the doorbell or knock; step back to give personal space.
- Greet them, introduce yourself, and identify that you are with Good Earth Pest Company.
- Ask them about what they have been seeing and if you can enter to inspect. Also, collect any samples they may have.
- Inspect interior activity and confirm an id if possible. Try to locate a source or wall that they seem to be coming from.
- Confirm that all prep has been done by the customer and that they know that all pets and people need to be evacuated from the premises for four hours after the completion of the service. Also ask about how to safely exit and secure the home. Sometimes windows can be left open for ventilation but always ask the client about this before doing so.
- Leave the customer to prepare their departure and go ready your equipment for your service.
- You will want to use a handheld sprayer and a non-repellant that is labeled for interior use, both Advion WDG and Alpine WSG are good choices.
- It's also a good idea to bring a duster and screwdriver with you. Try to stick with non-repellants with these as well. Cimexa is a chemically inert desiccant dust you can use indoors.
- Make sure your vehicle is locked and secure before going inside to perform the service.
- Once the client leaves, enter the home with sprayer, tools, shoe covers and PPE. Lock the front door so nobody can enter while you are working and do a sweep of the home making sure all people and animals are absent. In the event of a fish tank, they will need to be covered in plastic and the air pump turned off.
- With your liquid applicator, you can now treat all the baseboards in the problem areas, as well as any other areas you can access. Also, treat around any window frames and door frames where there is activity. Use a fan spray, being mindful to not over saturate any wallpaper or carpet.
- These products can leave a haze on the treated areas when dry. They are particularly noticeable on dark surfaces. This isn't permanent but the client should be made aware before service is performed.
- If there is a light switch or outlet that is a source of ants, you can remove the plate with your screwdriver and dust the interior of the wall. Always be cautious of electricity and follow all safety guidelines on the label.
- When you are finished with your application, make sure to open any windows you're allowed and turn off all the lights. Make sure all your materials and tools are outside the house before you lock up the house.
- Fill out an ORANGE door hanger with your name, the pest being treated, the date and time the treatment was completed, and the soonest time for re-entry of the structure. Make sure there is a door hanger for each door into the treated area.
- Call or text the client to inform them that you are finished with the treatment and inform them of their re-entry time.
- Return all materials to your truck and put away your equipment. Make sure to clean out your hand sprayer. You can put it into a backpack if the materials match or you can apply it per label somewhere else. If it is transported in the sprayer, it needs to be labeled properly.
- Enter all required information on the material applied into PestPac Mobile. Also, enter notes on the service provided today as well as any client concerns, observations you made, or necessary environmental changes (see PS.102 Entering material information and notes into PestPac Mobile). Be sure to update the location instructions with any pertinent information that other techs should know. Remember: Clients have access to your notes so they should always be professional and appropriate.
- If it was a particularly pleasant interaction, be sure to send a review invite via the Podium app (see PS.150 Sending a review invite using Podium Mobile).
- Check off the account on your service route log.
