Procedure

Review paperwork, both on your phone and on your service route log at the beginning of your day
and before you travel to the bid location. Pay attention to COW notifications, client concerns, or any other special remarks.

  1. Park with the flow of traffic on the street. Do not block driveways when possible.
  2. Review the Order Instructions and Location Instructions. Review your route log for hand-written notes.
  3. Confirm the street address to make sure you are at the correct building(s).
  4. Time into this account via mobile or on the paperwork.
  5. Bring your paperwork and inspection gear to the door. Do not cross over grass or landscape on your way if avoidable.
  6. Ring the doorbell or knock; step back to give personal space.
  7. Greet them, introduce yourself, and identify that you are with Good Earth Pest Company.
  8. In our area, we deal with two main types of roaches, Oriental, and German. Your primary focus at the beginning of the interaction is to determine what kind you are dealing with.
    1. Oriental roaches come from the surrounding environment of the structure. They find their way into the house following air currents and enter through cracks and crevices around the perimeter, mostly entering under doors that don’t have very good weatherstripping. They are larger than the German roaches and are usually just occasional invaders unless the house is unusually overgrown.
    2. German roaches are hitch-hikers. They come in on an infested object or person. They don’t live outside and would die in that environment. They live in groups in cracks and crevices usually located near resources that they require, food, water, and warmth. They tend to stay in a localized area until their population outgrows their resources unless they are treated with chemicals or otherwise disturbed. The adults are smaller than the orientals and there is usually a lot of juveniles present as well.
  9. Once you have your ID you can inspect the account.
    1. For Oriental roaches, this will mainly be an exterior inspection focusing on conducive conditions and harborage. You will also want to inspect doors and windows for gaps as well as the foundation. Always advise the client on mechanical means of control (weatherstripping, landscape maintenance). Create a map and make notes like you would with a general pest bid.
    2. German roaches require extensive inspection of the interior. You will need to inspect all the rooms, paying special attention to the ones that have activity. You will want to inspect all the appliances and cabinets in the kitchen. Check all the furniture, doorframes, and electronics. Ask the client about any furniture they have moved into or around the house. Make clear and detailed notes on your findings. Maps and diagrams are useful. As are pictures. You can upload any pictures you take into the documents on pestpac. If there are particularly infested items, the client may want to dispose of them.
  10. With your ID and your knowledge of the account construct a bid for service. You may want to include interior liquid applications in your initial treatment. Be sure the price reflects this and the customer understands evacuation protocols. For the current pricing guide, you can consult Pricing and warranty guide in the documents section of the Bamboo HR app. Include in your bid an option for ongoing service.
  11. Reconvene with the client and present them the bid. Thoroughly explain the service and what it covers, how much it costs, and the warranty. Detail your findings and tell them what they need to do to prepare for the service and reduce pest pressure in general. Always set realistic expectations with the client. We don’t want to make any promises we can’t deliver on.
  12. If the client decides to sign on right away, collect the proper signatures and leave them the pink copy of the service agreement. If the residence is vacant or the customer is fully prepared you can do the service right away. See PS.186 initial or 1X service – Cockroaches (German) or PS.188 initial or 1X service – Cockroaches (Oriental). Otherwise, it will need to be scheduled by the office.
  13. If the client doesn’t want to start right away, leave them the pink and yellow copies of the service agreement so they can return the yellow copy when they decide to sign on.
  14. Return to your vehicle when done and secure all equipment and make sure it is safe to travel.
  15. Enter all required information on the material applied into PestPac Mobile. Also, enter notes on the service provided today as well as any client concerns, observations you made, or necessary environmental changes (see PS.102 Entering material information and notes into PestPac Mobile). You are the first tech to be servicing this account, be sure that you update the location instructions with any pertinent information that other techs should know. Remember: Clients have access to your notes so they should always be professional and appropriate.
  16. If it was a particularly pleasant interaction be sure to send a review invite via the Podium app (see PS.150 Sending a review invite using Podium Mobile).
  17. Check off the account on your service route log.
